Correlation between the large scale blocking-type circulations over the Atlantic and the poor weather periods at Gander are illustrated and discussed. The life cycle of the most typical Blocking sequence resulting in a prolonged poor weather period at Gander is pictured in chart form and its significant characteristics examined. The characteristic properties of prolonged poor weather periods in May are investigated.
