"The RD-65A is a 1680 MHz Automatic Tracking Radiotheodolite which is functionally very similar to the standard GMD-1B, the system currently used in Canada to obtain upper level winds. Since the RD-65A is smaller and less expensive than the GMD-1B, considerable interest has been generated in its capabilities. This report summarizes our evaluation of the RD-65A; briefly, our results indicate that the RD-65A has a tracking accuracy of 0.1° and a limiting angle of 15 degrees, making it very similar in performance to the 403 MHz windfinding system, i.e., the Metox or SCR-658"--Abstract.
