"In 1985, the Pacific Salmon Treaty committed the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans to halt the decline in abundance of chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) stocks. The Harrison River was designated a chinook indicator stock, and escapement has been monitored annually since 1984. In 1992, the Harrison River chinook escapement was estimated, using the Petersen mark-recapture method, at 130,411 adults. The sex composition of the escapement was 41% female and 59% male. The age composition of the escapement was 23.6% age 3, 73.9% age 4, and 2.5% age 5"--Abstract, page viii.
