"This report presents the findings, conclusions, and recommendations from the formative evaluation of Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan's) Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities (CERRC) program, covering fiscal years 2017-18 to 2024-25. The evaluation examined questions of the program's relevance and performance. Launched in 2018, the CERRC program supports renewable energy and capacity-building projects to reduce diesel use for heat and power in rural and remote communities across Canada. About 200 communities rely entirely on diesel for electricity and heat. Currently funded through 2026-27, the program prioritizes Indigenous-led projects with demonstrated community support and aims to support local renewable energy use and improve energy efficiency, generating environmental, social, and economic benefits. …"--Executive summary, page [3].
