New and lesser-known caridean (Pandalidae) and penaeoid (Aristeidae, Solenoceridae) shrimp seen from the Maritimes ecosystem research vessel surveys in Atlantic Canada / by Claude Nozères, Francisco Javier... : Fs97-4/3346E-PDF

"Reviewing preserved specimens and at-sea photos confirmed ten new and one lesser-known species of shrimp of families Aristeidae, Solenoceridae, and Pandalidae sampled on the Maritimes Ecosystem Research Vessel Surveys between 2017-2025 on the Scotian Shelf of the northwest Atlantic. Seven species were new records for Canada since 1990: Aristaeomorpha foliacea, Hadropenaeus modestus, Plesionika acanthonotus, Plesionika holthuisi, Plesionika longipes, Plesionika martia, and Plesionika tenuipes. Two species, Aristeus antillensis and Hymenopenaeus debilis, were known in Canada in 2011 and another, Faxonia robusta, was known since 1990, but all three had not been previously recorded on the survey. Species were confirmed in 81 records from 60 sets on 13 surveys, although two sets with P. acanthonotus and P. holthuisi also had intermediate forms that will need further review. Some shrimp may have been recent strays from southern waters, while others may have been present but were misidentified as the lesser-known species Aristaeopsis edwardsiana that was also examined here for comparison.
