"This monograph is a study of human fertility in Canada. The investigation is largely based on statistics collected for the first time in Canada at the Decennial Census of 1941, when the following questions wore asked of all women who at the date of the Census, either were or had been married: (a) age at first marriage; (b) number of children born alive to the mother; (c) number of these children living at the date of the Census. By means of special tabulations the size of completed families is related to cultural and economic characteristics enumerated at the Census. Vital Statistics data are used to bring the record of current fertility up to date and to supplement census information about smaller localities. The scope of the analysis in Part I is described in the Introduction. A brief general summary will be found at the close of Part I. Part II presents tables of basic data and is followed by the Appendices"--Pref., p. [iii]
