"LGBTQ2+ individuals remain one of the most marginalized groups worldwide. A recent United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Report outlines widespread violence against LGBTQ2+ populations. Further, the report points to a lack of protections and continued systemic discrimination which contribute to the ongoing vulnerability of this group. However, the report also indicates that there has been rapid progress toward inclusion and equality including nations adopting legal protections of sexual orientation and gender, abolishing criminal sanctions and legalizing same sex marriage"--Background, page 4.
