"Side-scan sonar generates high resolution imagery of underwater objects, including fish and structures that comprise physical fish habitat, with wide spatial coverage relative to traditional down-view sonar. It is also integrated into reasonably affordable commercial products, and is therefore becoming increasingly popular for structural fish habitat mapping (e.g., substrate types, woody debris, vegetation).
