The strata of the ancestral North American margin northeast of Tintina Fault can be subdivided into four main assemblages : Proterozoic to Middle Devonian : Selwyn Basin and McEvoy Platform, Devono-Mississippian : Earn Assemblage, Mississippian to Triassic : clastic shelf assemblage and Early Cretaceous : Foreland Basin.
