By James M. Simpson. This study examines aspects of international and national penal law that applied to the Canadian Armed Forces during their deployment in Somalia from December 1992 to June 1993. Within that context, the study explores the applicability of the criminal law of Somalia and Canada, the military law of Canada, and the international law of armed conflict. The book also comments briefly on the Canadian Armed Forces' rules of engagement which specified when (and when not) armed forces personnel were obliged to use force against persons in Somalia.
