In May 1999, James Smith Cree Nation wrote the Indian Claims Commission requesting an inquiry into its rejected Treaty Land Entitlement claim, and in June 1999, the Commission agreed to conduct an inquiry. On May 20, 2005, the Commission issued its report into Issue 9: Amalgamation. Further written submission, followed by oral arguments were heard on the remaining issues in June 2006. This report contains a review of the facts of this issue, as well as the Commission’s legal analysis, findings, and recommendations to the parties.
