Arctic ice atlas, Winter, 1998 / Issued by the Canadian Ice Service. : En40-11/34-1998
The objective in compiling this document was to provide ice information for marine operations in Arctic waters during the 1997 shipping season. In addition to its operational utility, the series represents an important climatological archive of winter ice conditions, providing a clearer understanding of variations in Arctic ice regimes both geographically and seasonally. This year information from a satellite borne SAR system has been used almost exclusively. SAR data from the RADARSAT satellite was captured by the Prince Albert receiving station and sent by tape to Gatineau where it was processed and forwarded to the Ice Centre. Most of the data was captured between Jan. 29th and Feb. 09th, 1997.--Introduction
