"Since 1973, labour productivity in Canada has grown at a much slower average rate than it did over much of the postwar period. Part of the post-1973 slowdown in productivity growth is related to the cyclical performance of the economy over this period. The extent of the slowdown appears to have been larger than can be accounted for by cyclical factors alone, however, and has led to the suggestion that the trend growth rate of productivity in Canada has declined in the 1970s. ..."--Pref.
