Statistical organization in Canada .: CS12-D-52B/1951E-PDF

"Canada has a long history of statistical development. Vital statistics of the French population of what is now the Province of Quebec have been compiled from ecclesiastical records and the writings of Champlain and others, back to the year 1608. In 1666 wan taken the first systematic census of modern times - a record by name of all persons in the colony, their ages, occupations, conjugal condition, and relationship to the head of the family. No fewer than 36 similar censuses were taken between 1667 and the end of the French régime"--Historical Sketch, p. [1].
