"Seabirds have been counted at sea off eastern and arctic Canada since 1969 under the Programme Intégré de Recherches sur les Oiseaux Pélagiques (PIROP) (Brown et al. 1975, Brown 1986). The PIROP data base was designed for records gathered by many different observers, often volunteers, some of whom had limited training"--Introd.
