"Lake Ontario and its drainage basin has been selected as the type area to investigate for the International Field Year on the Great Lakes (IFYGL). The IFYGL is co-sponsored by the Canadian and United States National Committees for the International Hydrological Decade (IHD). The terrestrial water balance is one of the four inter-disciplinary program areas, and its objective is to determine the total inflow to and outflow from the lake"--Pref.
