"In 1976 the Research and Development Division of the Environmental Emergency Branch of the Department of Fisheries and the Environment directed an evaluation of nine mechanical oil skimmers. Additional testing of one skimmer was conducted in May, 1977. Two of the machines were tested as mobile units, while four were examined in a current and four in a boomed-off area"--Abstract.
