"The purpose of the program is to focus attention on the book and on what it is that makes a well-designed book, and in so doing to encourage all those involved in the production and publication of books in Canada to achieve and maintain high standards of book design and production. The jury is asked to select a minimum of 25 books and a maximum of 10 per cent of the number of entries. The books chosen are to incorporate the highest standards of bookmaking from the point of view of design and production, consistent with price and purpose."--1975, Charge to the Jury, page 6.
