Replacement of censored observations by arbitrary values : an evaluation / by A.H. El-Shaarawi and S.R. Esterby.En13-5/90-68E-PDF

"In the analysis of water quality data, samples with concentrations below the analytical detection limit are sometimes replaced by arbitrary values. The performance of this replacement method has previously been examined in Monte Carlo studies by severalauthors. In this paper, the expectation of the sample mean and variance, under replacement by a value between 0 and the detection limit, are given for normally and lognormally distributed data"--Abstract.
