"Peninsula Harbour, on the north shore of Lake Superior, is the dominant waterfront feature of the community of Marathon, Ontario (Figure 1). A pulp mill located on the shore of Jellicoe Cove, a southern embayment of the harbour, historically discharged a portion of its effluent into the cove. After 1980, all effluent discharge, except for possible overflows of the main mill sump, was rerouted to Lake Superior offshore from Pebble Beach (Sibley et al, 1991)"--Introduction, page 1.
