The development of heterodyne-based optical intersatellite communications : final report / J. Gazdewich, A. Waksberg, C. Drèze.: Co24-3/1-86-046E-PDF
"A study was made to develop key technologies in intersatellite links (ISL) based on the laser diode. Theoretical work was done including determinations of the receiver sensitivity as a function of a number of parameters such as bitrate, type of detectors, gain and detection techniques, both direct and heterodyne. Investigations were also made on modulation formats, laser diodes, detectors, noise and noise reduction techniques as well as acquisition and tracking"--Abstract.
