"During October 1987, a benthic sediment chemistry survey was conducted at selected sites in Esquimalt Harbour. The need for repeat maintenance dredging at industrial locations and the degree of elevated concentrations of mercury and cadmium in the harbour prompted a comprehensive survey to determine the extent of trace metal contamination"--Introduction, page 1.
