The changing value of Canada's farmland : 1961-1976 / by E.W. Manning and J.D. McCuaig, with E.A. Lacoste = Évolution de la valeur des terres agricoles canadiennes : 1961-1976 / par E.W. Manning et J.D....: En73-1/17-PDF
"The amount paid for farmland is a direct indicator of the value we place on it as a society. Farmland has value as the source of our food, but the increasing demand for farmland for non-productive uses has escalated the price of that resource to the point where agriculturalists have great difficulty meeting the asking price for land. This has become a problem particularly in the most productive regions because our cities, with all their related urban demands, are situated in the centre of our best farmland. It is important for all Canadians to be aware of the factors influencing the major resource-producing sectors. This publication is designed to focus attention on the price changes in farmland during the past two decades and to examine some of the implications for our farmland resource and our agricultural sector"--Preface, page iii.
