Estimates of nutrient load carried by the Okanagan River into Osoyoos Lake / L. John Zeman and H. Olav Slaymaker.: En37-256/1982E-PDF
"Phosphorus removal from the Penticton waste treatment plant and reduction of its loads to receiving waters was undertaken in 1971. During the period from 1976 to 1980, a nutrient loading study was conducted by Water Quality Branch in the southern Okanagan Basin in order to assess the effectiveness of this remedial action. Two major river reaches and the surrounding areas were selected for the study, the Penticton reach of the Okanagan River above Skaha Lake which is directly affected by the changes of nutrient discharge from the Penticton treatment plant, and the reach through Oliver leading to Osoyoos Lake, where similar changes are planned. Four channel cross-sections in the Okanagan River were selected for determination of nutrient loads : 1. below Okanagan Lake, 2. above and 3. below Skaha Lake, and 4. above Osoyoos Lake"--Abstract.
