"The purpose of this report is to consider the progress of the Canada Land Inventory and to review the comments received from government and private agencies concerning present and potential uses of the information as well as any shortcomings which are being revealed. The overall purpose of the program is to provide a planning base consisting of land capability maps for the alternative uses of the lands of the settled portion of Canada - approximately one million square miles (Figure 1)"--page 1.
