"Canada and the United States (U.S.) have had five softwood lumber disputes since 1982, and the United States has periodically applied anti-dumping duties (ADs) and countervailing duties (CVDs) on certain Canadian softwood lumber products (hereafter, the United States’ ADs and CVDs). In October 2022, the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade (the Committee) released a report that largely focused on two topics relating to Canada–U.S. trade: softwood lumber and electric vehicles. The report’s chapter on softwood lumber trade summarized witnesses’ comments and contained the Committee’s recommendations to the Government of Canada.
