"The purpose of this evaluation was to assess the performance of the Food Safety Program (FSP) for the period from April 2012 to March 2018. The evaluation was also designed to highlight accomplishments and lessons learned, as well as challenges experienced by the Program. FSP operates under the authority of the Department of Health Act, the Food and Drugs Act and the Food and Drug Regulations, which provide the framework for Health Canada to develop, maintain, and implement a regulatory system associated with food safety and nutrition. The Program is managed by the Health Products and Food Branch (HPFB), with direct support from the Regulatory Operations and Enforcement Branch (ROEB)i and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). It encompasses activities undertaken to help ensure that food products used by Canadians are safe for their health. It also includes activities pertaining to veterinary drugs administered to food-producing animals"--Executive summary, page iv.
