"This volume of Documents on Canadian External Relations (DCER) examines Canadian diplomacy during the Vietnam War, specifically from 1963 to 1968. A second volume will cover the period from 1968 to 1973. Since DCER’s inception in 1967, three thematic volumes have appeared. The present work marks the reorientation ofthe series from a "comprehensive self-contained record of the major foreign policy decisions taken by the Government of Canada, and of the reasons for taking them, as well as ofthe major international events and trends affecting Canada" (usually over a year or so) to a more flexible thematic approach that studies key issues and events in greater depth, whether they occurred in a short time frame or, as in this volume, over a much longer period"--Introduction, page [ix].
