Testing the efficacy of a field-portable spiral helix sediment concentrator for capturing kimberlite indicator minerals and gold grains from unconsolidated glacial and non-glacial sediments / I.R. Smith...: M183-2/8092E-PDF
"The study reported here tests whether a simple mechanical spiral separator (helical screw), designed for amateur gold exploration can be reliably used to produce a concentrate of heavier minerals from three different types of unconsolidated deposits known to contain abundant kimberlite indicator minerals, and one non-glacial gravel deposit known to contain placer gold. Results from this assessment will determine if this same field-portable spiral separator could be used on Banks Island, Northwest Territories, to increase the potential for kimberlite indicator mineral recovery from drift and unconsolidated bedrock samples"--Introduction, page 4.
