Report on the mediation of the Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation flooding negotiations : RC31-19/2004E-PDF
This report summarizes the events that led to the settlement of the claim brought by the Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation against the Government of Canada in 1979 for damages resulting from the 1942 flooding of reserve lands bordering the Qu’Appelle River. The report also illustrates the Commission’s role in its resolution. The Commission is a temporary, independent body to inquire, at the request of a First Nation, into specific land claims that have been rejected by the federal government.
