Intracranial dispersion model : a model of ultrasonic dispersion for diagnosis of intracranial injury / by Craig Burrell and Parmeshar Chauhan. : D68-6/042-2011E-PDF
DRDC Toronto is in the process of developing a Dispersive Ultrasound System to diagnose internal neurological injury. The Dispersive Ultrasound System is intended to be non-invasive, portable, simple to use, and relatively inexpensive. To identify neurological injuries the Dispersive Ultrasound System relies on the dispersion spectrum produced by acoustic signals as they traverse the skull and intracranial tissue. An Intracranial Dispersion Model has been developed in order to better understand the formation of dispersion spectra and the effects that various factors, including intracranial injury, have upon them. The formulation of the Intracranial Dispersion Model is presented in detail. As well, results related to the variability of dispersion spectra and to the diagnostic impact of uncertainties are presented. Finally, a hypothetical case study illustrates the diagnostic insights that can be gained from use of the Intracranial Dispersion Model.
