"Canada's principal piece of federal environmental protection legislation - the Canadian Environmental Protection Act- was developed in the mid 1980s, at a time when there was growing concern about the presence of toxicsubstances in the environment ... On June 20, 1995, the Committee tabled its mandatory five-year review of the Act, entitled It's About Our Health! Towards Pollution Prevention, CEPA Revisited. The proposals contained in the Government Response which is being released for public consultation will form the basis for the renewal ofCEPA for protecting Canada's environment- now and for future generations"--p. 2-3.
