"The labour Force Survey (L.F.S) divides the civilian, non-institutional, working age population into the three mutually exclusive categories of employed, unemployed and not in the labour force. While traditionally interest has focused on the labour force and its many components, this paper is directed at charting the characteristics of persons who, at the time of the survey, were not labour force participants."--Introduction.
