Collecting, summarizing, and analyzing harvest data : a step by step guide to estimating annual harvest of migratory birds. : CW66-537/2016E-PDF

"This guidance document was written to help you collect, summarize, visualize, and analyze data on harvesting of migratory game birds. To use this guide, you are not required to have had any prior experience working with data. All that is required of you is motivation to learn, and maybe a little patience. Collecting harvest data to estimate the annual take of migratory birds is, in a word, research. This document is organized according to the steps you need to take as a researcher conducting a study. We start with getting acquainted with some fundamental terms. We brush up against the philosophical problem inherent to research – that is, how do we know that our research is telling us the truth? We then move onto the importance of carefully considering what we're actually trying to measure, and how best to take measurements. We overview the importance of creating a data collection protocol, and of regular communication with our data collectors – the hunters - to avoid biases and errors”--Intro., p. 4.
