"This paper considers the potential impact that plea bargaining will have on the introduction of sentencing guidelines in Canada. From a consideration of the U.S. literature, it is determined that plea bargaining is a complex and diverse phenomenon that varies between, and even within, jurisdictions. Furthermore, attempts to abolish or restructure it have generally failed or resulted inunintended and undesirable consequences throughout the criminal justice system.
