The 2008 Canadian atmospheric assessment of agricultural ammonia . : En4-112/2009E-PDF

"Atmospheric ammonia (NH3) has been linked to many major air pollution issues. Of particular interest is the relationship between atmospheric NH3 and particulate matter (PM). NH3 undergoes atmospheric reactions in the presence of precursor gases such as sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to form particulate ammonium (p-NH4+), a major component of PM. PM, in turn, is an important constituent of smog, which is known to have significant adverse impacts on human health"--Executive Summary.
