"In the analysis of water quality data, more attention has been given to statistical methods for the determination of time trends than for the determination of spatial heterogeneity., The latter is equally important, even when a time trend is of primary concern, since factors other than time must not be mixed up with the time effect. The present paper describes methods suitable for the analysis of water quality data, including methods already in use and methods which could be used to advantage"--Executive summary.
