"This research paper treats the history of water, the use and development in Canada from earliest times until roughly 1960. The discussion is organized into seven sections. The first six sections correspond to specific historical periods, and attention is focused mainly on the increasingly complex relationship between human societies and their water environment in northern North America. ... The final section shifts attention to the role of the Federal government in the development and management of the water resource in the period from 1850 to about 1930."--Abstract.
