Fourier analysis for Hovmöller program at PWC / David Grimes, supervising meteorologist. : En57-44/82-005E-PDF
"Over the winter months Hovmöller data has been collected and analyzed in a variety of formats. 500 millibar height datas is averaged over a latitude band for every 5 degrees of longitude. The conventional method of displaying this data has been in a X-T diagram referred to today as the Hovmöller diagram. ... The method of analyzing the wave forms on this particular diagram is the subject of another report and will not be discussed here. However, harmonic analysis has been a popular tool for deciphering the significant wave patterns in the data."
