"Oil can enter the marine environment from any number of different routes and for a variety of different reasons. In the offshore, the major sources of oil are tanker accidents and blowouts from oil and gas exploration and production facilities. It is worth noting, however, that oil from these two sources constitutes only about 15 percent of the total amount of oil entering the ocean"--Introd.
