"The rapid changes in the use of technologies in daily life are changing the skills needed to function satisfactorily in modern economy. In the industrialized world, it has been estimated that over the coming five years, four out of five people will be doing work differently from the way it has been performed in the previous fifty years. The requirement for an increasingly sophisticated workforce will present Canada with growing requirements for improved education and training opportunities. At the same time that demands in education and training are increasing, there has been a parallel growth in the power and sophistication of information technologies. Canada has been in the forefront in the use of these technologies in education and training.
