The development of automatic techniques for the real time prediction of storm surges on the Great Lakes / F. Penicka. : En39-67/1976E-PDF

"An automated technique is described, for the real time prediction of storm surges on Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The transient response is obtained as a convolution with wind stress, of an impulse response of a lake at a point of interest. The impulse response is a weighted sum of six lowest seiches for each lake. Surface winds predicted by regression technique from forecast elements of PE Model serve as meteorological input for Lake Erie and Lake Ontario while for Lake St. Clair it was necessary to use winds observed at Windsor Airport. Results of test runs for 17 storm episodes on Lake St. Clair and 2 storms on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario are included"--Abstract, page iii.
