"The Bear Creek basin is one of four Ontario river basins being evaluated for Environment Canada's proposed National Reference Network (NRN) for water quality. The purpose of this study is to provide reference documents which summarize the influences of ecological diversity and human activity on water quality, and to provide a framework with which potential water quality monitoring sites can be selected to address specific federal water quality issues. Issues identified for the NRN are: agricultural eutrophication, pesticides, urbanization, acid rain, pristine/baseline, and development/resource extraction. Stations are being located to monitor appropriate issues within sub-basins of each watershed"--Executive summary, page iv.
