"Recently, the Northern Rivers Ecosystem Initiative (NREI) was launched to further investigate the ecology of northern river systems and evaluate the effects of human activities on aquatic resources. The development of a framework for conducting cumulative effects assessments has been identified as a high priority goal under this program. To that end, a review of the published literature was conducted to identify relevant references on cumulative impact assessment and to support an evaluation of their applications in northern river ecosystems.
