"This paper will compare the recommendations of the Task Force on the Future of the Canadian Financial Services Sector with the response of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance in its report The Future Starts Now; the recommendations of the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce in its report A Blueprint for Change; and the financial services sector reform proposals made by the Government of Canada in the White Paper Reforming Canada’s Financial Services Sector, A Framework for the Future. The comparison will focus on key areas such as structure, access to the payments system, merger review, regulation, expanded business powers, consumer protection, business practices and accountability, taxation, and accounting rules. In each case, the analysis will give a brief summary of the recommendations of the Task Force Report, the responses of the Finance Committee and the Senate Banking Committee to the Task Force recommendations, and the proposals made in the White Paper"--Introduction, page 2.
