"The possible importance of algal spores in the diet of largal oysters has drawn the attention of several workers to these plant cells. One student, Mary W. Parke, after considerable research at the Marine Biological Station at Port Erin, Isle of Man, states that they "know" that algal spores are of no use at all as food to the European oyster larvae. At present, she considers flagellates and dinoflagellates as the important organisms"--Algae and algal spores, page [1].
