"An analysis of ice measurements at Port Harrison has led to the following conclusions. (1) At the mouths of rivers emptying into bodies of freezing saltwater, ice growth will be increased by losses of heat from the fresh to the salt water. (2) A study of ice thickness at Port Harrison can determine the time at which fresh water ceased to flow past the measuring site. This knowledge should be useful in estimating the winter discharge of the Innuksuak River"--Abstract.
