This enactment amends the Constitution Act, 1867 to provide for the election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Senate. It further amends the Constitution Act, 1867 to provide for a voting procedure in the Senate similar to the one used in the House of Commons, where the elected Speaker of that House may not vote except when the votes on a question are equally divided. The enactment also makes related amendments to the Parliament of Canada Act.
