"A brief review will be given of the work of mathematical statisticians in the survey methodology divisions at Statistics Canada. This work involves mainly survey design with some opportunity for research and teaching. Statistics Canada's requirements for recruits to fulfill this type of work will be identified. These requirements will be related to the recruitment of university graduates. Differences between Statistics Canada requirements and characteristics of recent recruits will be brought out. Finally, ideas will be presented on how Universities might be able to assist in better preparing mathematical statisticians to be professionals at Statistics Canada"--Abstract.
