Canadian unemployment : lessons learned from the 80s and challenges for the 90s : a compendium / edited by Surendra Gera.: EC22-177/1991E-PDF

"The research reported in this volume was motivated by the observation of two troubling trends - rising and persistent unemployment. Other disturbing dimensions of the Canadian unemployment experience include growing regional, demographic, and industrial disparities, and increasing long-term unemployment. The contributors to this volume take a variety of analytical approaches to explain the distinctive patterns of Canadian unemployment. Their work offers valuable insights into the underlying causes of unemployment, pointing to some disturbing signs that the problem will not be easily solved using the same approaches that have been used in the past. It also outlines some possible solutions."--Foreword, page xi.
